John 14:27 (ESV)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Reflection

You woke up this morning carrying something. Maybe it’s a diagnosis, a conversation you’re dreading, a relationship that’s unraveling, or just the low hum of anxiety that never seems to fully go away. You long for peace, but you’ve learned that the peace the world offers is thin and temporary. It depends on circumstances lining up just right, on people behaving the way you need them to, on nothing going wrong. That kind of peace is always one phone call away from shattering.

Jesus knew this about you. That’s why, on the night before His crucifixion, with betrayal and suffering just hours away, He didn’t promise His disciples ease. He promised them Himself. “My peace I give to you.” Not a feeling conjured up by positive thinking. Not the absence of trouble. A Person. A peace rooted in the fact that He has already secured your forgiveness, already conquered sin and death, already seated Himself at the Father’s right hand to intercede for you.

Your heart doesn’t have to be troubled today, not because your circumstances are under control, but because the One who holds your circumstances is in control, and He has bound Himself to you in covenant love. His peace isn’t fragile like the world’s. It’s as unshakeable as the empty tomb.

So let your heart rest. Not in what you can manage, but in who He is.

Lord Jesus, when fear rises in me today, remind me that your peace isn’t circumstantial. Quiet my heart with the truth of who you are. Amen.
