1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV)

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Reflection

You and I were made to belong to something, or someone. Before grace found us, we told ourselves we were self-owned, free to run our bodies and desires however we wanted. But Paul pulls back the curtain this morning and shows us a different reality: you are not your own. That truth should stop us cold, and then, in the next breath, fill us with relief.

Here’s the wonder of it: you weren’t just claimed, you were bought. A price was paid. Not silver, not gold, but the blood of Jesus. The Holy Spirit now makes His home in you, which means your body, with all its weakness, failure, and temptation, is holy ground, not because you’ve earned that status, but because Christ purchased it for you at infinite cost.

This changes how we think about our bodies today. Our physical lives aren’t just vehicles for private pleasure or self-expression. They’re temples. That doesn’t mean perfection is required of us before God will dwell there. It means grace has already moved in, weakness and all, and is doing a patient, faithful work of making us holy from the inside out.

So when you’re tempted to use your body for yourself alone, remember whose you are. You’ve been bought. You’ve been filled. You’ve been loved at a staggering price.

Lord, I am not my own. Thank You for buying me with the blood of Your Son. Let my body and spirit, today, belong fully to You.
