Psalm 90:1–2 (ESV)
A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.
Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Reflection
Moses writes these words standing at the end of a long, hard road. Behind him lies a wilderness littered with graves, an entire generation that didn’t make it into the promised land because of unbelief. And yet, before he says anything about human frailty or failure (which he will, just a few verses later), he says this: Lord, you have been our dwelling place. Not a tent that gets folded up and moved. Not a borrowed house. A dwelling place, secure, permanent, home.
Think about what that means for today. You and I are not home because of a location. We are home because of a Person. Before the mountains existed, before the earth had form, before time itself began ticking, God was already God. Already sufficient. Already faithful. Already enough.
This matters because your life feels anything but eternal. Your plans shift, your strength fades, your circumstances change by the hour. You are, as Moses will go on to say, like grass that withers. But the God you belong to is not withering. He is not catching up to your need or adjusting His plans around your failures. From everlasting to everlasting, He simply is, and He has made Himself your home.
So today, when you feel unmoored, remember: your stability was never meant to come from inside you. It comes from dwelling in Him.
Lord, when I feel shaken, remind me that you are my unshaken home. Let me rest in your eternal faithfulness today.
