Psalm 16:11 (ESV)

You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Reflection

You and I are chronic path-finders, always scanning the horizon for the next thing we think will finally satisfy. We follow the trail of a career move, a relationship, a purchase, a change of scenery, convinced that this time the path will lead somewhere that feels like home. And again and again, the path disappoints. Not because those things are evil, but because they were never meant to bear the weight of our deepest longings. Only one path leads to life, and we cannot find it on our own. We need someone to show us.

That is exactly the promise of Psalm 16:11. God doesn’t leave us to wander, guessing our way through a maze of good and bad options. He shows us the path of life. And where does that path lead? Not to a place, but to a Person. It leads into His presence, where there is fullness of joy, not a thin, fragile happiness dependent on circumstances, but a deep, abiding gladness rooted in being known and loved by God Himself.

This is why Jesus came. He is the way, the one who walks the path with us and for us, who brings us into the Father’s presence once and for all. The pleasures He gives are not momentary; they are forever.

So today, when you feel the pull of lesser paths, remember where true joy is found.

Lord, show me the path of life today. Keep me from settling for lesser joys when fullness is found in You alone.
