Matthew 6:26 (ESV)

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Reflection

There is a kind of anxiety that wakes up before you do. It’s there in the quiet moments, whispering about tomorrow’s bills, today’s unfinished work, the health scare, the relationship that feels unsteady. Jesus doesn’t scold us for feeling the weight of these things. Instead, he points out the window. Look at the birds, he says. They don’t plant, they don’t store up, they don’t strategize for the future, and yet they eat. They are fed, day after day, by a Father who has not forgotten them.

Here’s what we need to let settle into our hearts this morning: if God’s providing care extends to sparrows, creatures with no eternal soul, no divine image stamped on them, no blood of Christ shed for them, how much more will he care for you? Your anxiety often forgets this math. It assumes that because you cannot see tomorrow’s provision, it must not exist. But faith rests in a Person, not a paycheck. It trusts a Father, not a formula.

This doesn’t mean we stop working or planning. It means we stop carrying a weight that was never ours to bear alone. Christ has already secured your greatest need, reconciliation with God, and if he’s done that at the cost of his own life, he is not about to abandon you over lesser things.

Lord, quiet my anxious heart today. Help me trust your fatherly care as much as I trust your saving grace. Amen.
