Matthew 7:7–8 (ESV)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Reflection
Most of us are better at worrying than we are at asking. We carry our burdens around all day, rehearsing them, rearranging them, trying to solve what we cannot solve, and then wonder why we feel so tired. Jesus offers a simpler way: ask, seek, knock.
Notice what these three words assume. They assume you are needy. Nobody knocks on a door they can open themselves. Nobody asks for what they already have. Jesus invites you to stop pretending to be self-sufficient and to come to your Father as the dependent child you actually are. Your weakness is not an obstacle to prayer. It is the very reason prayer exists.
And notice who is on the other side of the door. This is not a distant, irritated deity who needs to be talked into kindness. This is the Father who sent His Son to rescue you before you ever thought to ask. If He gave you Christ when you were at your worst, will He now close His ear to your cry? His willingness is not in doubt. It was settled at the cross.
Sometimes we hesitate because we think we have to come with a clean record. But the door does not open on the strength of your performance. It opens on the strength of Christ’s. You knock in His name, and in Him the answer is already “yes” to every grace you truly need.
Father, I am needy and I know it. Give me the humility to ask today, and the faith to trust that Your door is open to me in Christ.
